The Caravan makes it home

2026-02-15

The morning started with a trip to Repco in Maryborough to source a new fuse for the caravan mover. Their system said they had one in stock, but it turns out it was lying. However, the Hervey Bay store had three of a different type of fuse, and a holder in stock, so we reserved two fuses (good to have a spare) and the holder and set off to Hervey Bay (about a 40 min drive). The goods were there waiting for us, and with the RACQ discount, I was only out of pocket $36, so back to my parents we went. It took me < five minutes remove the old fuse holder and install the new one with fuse.
I then prepared the van for travel, making very sure to release the handbrake after the motors were engaged, and then tested out the mover. It worked first go, and somewhat more smoothly with no brake holding it back. Buoyed by my success, I proceeded to hitch up the van to the car, without having to muck around moving the car in to the right position with the aide of someone else telling me where to go and stop.

It was at this point that the migraine decided to show up again (I spent a good part of the previous day with a migraine). So leaving was delayed as I took some painkillers and had a rest in a dark room until I was human again (about an hour or so). By then it was lunchtime so we had a quick lunch of leftover chook on a bun, and then finished loading up the gear before setting off.

We made it to the end of the street before I remembered we didn't check the van lights were working, so I pulled over, Lea got out and confirmed they were all good, and then we were on our way again. The trip down the Bruce was uneventful apart from the considerable amount of rain pretty much the entire trip. Got fuel at a ridiculous price of $2.315/L (didn't fill at that price) and also some much needed chocolate.

We arrived home at 16:30 and just left the van still hitched in the front yard, as it was still raining and I didn't feel the need to unhitch, move the van and car, and then turn the van and park it up. That's a tomorrow me problem.
